Ways to Help:
Whilst the St Christopher Children’s Home is very much reliant on the generosity of the public and corporate sector in meeting our financial needs there are other ways both large in small in which you can help us help the children.
MENTORING
Due to the challenging backgrounds many of our children have experienced, they often do not have the older family member or neighbour to offer words of wisdom and show interest in their overall development. With no strong role model, the children often are lacking in someone to look up to who can offer them advice, an ear to listen and provide those day to day examples that help guide healthy, happy and independent adults.
Partnering with established community groups and organisations such as Rotary or Lions Club opens to the Home experience and talents from a wide variety of persons without burdening any one person. We would welcome assistance in establishing programs that would prepare our young people for independent living and programs such as financial management skills or preparing for the working environment which covers resume preparation, interview skills and how to dress in the workplace to name a few. How can you or your organisation help ?
VOLUNTEERING
Volunteers have always been a vital partnership and important role in helping the smooth running of the Home. Volunteers participate in many different roles both large and small such as taking the children out on day time excursions, introducing them to different activities such as HASH, Cricket/CPL, helping with homework and exam preparation, teaching Life Skills such as sewing, cooking, arts and crafts and gardening to name a few. Providing the children the opportunity to meet and engage with persons of different backgrounds and experiences develops their interests and opens to them opportunities they may not otherwise encounter as well as to practice their social skills which are so important. If you have a particular interest, hobby or work experience we would love to hear from you to see how you can engage with the children.
INTERNSHIPS
With our older children, we aim to introduce them to the working environment and its expectations via summer internship programs. These programs where the Home has partnered with local business, allow the children to experience different work environments to see where their interests lie as well as provide much needed experience in the working place. We are always open to expanding this program and career path options for the children so please contact us to see how you may be able to offer assistance.
DONATING - Goods and services or payment options
As a registed NGO the Home is reliant on the kindness and generosity of the public and corporate sector both locally and internationally. The Administrator can advise what items may be most needed at any time as well as items on our “Wish List” or for upcoming improvement projects so please do not hesitate to contact us if you are thinking of sending or purchasing items for the Home - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.;
You can also use the donate button on our web page and donate via credit card payment directly to the Children’s Home. Funds are debited in Eastern Caribbean Dollars. If you would prefer to donate in US dollars via our US Foundation “Its for the Children” page, you can donate via PayPal or credit card which ever is more convenient for you. Through the US Foundation as a registered 501c3 organisation, you may be able to submit your receipt in your annual tax returns.
FUND RAISING EVENTS
Our main fund raising event is our annual Family Fun Walk and Run which is usually held the first Saturday of October. This afternoon event brings together the community of all ages for a gentle 2k walk or short 5K run with a BBQ lunch afterwards. The bulk of the funds raised through this event is through Corporate sponsorship and the public support on the day brings together our St Kitts and Nevis communities, both young and old, for this fun afternoon. If you would like to become a Corporate sponsor please contact the Chairperson for further details.
In addition to the Walk Run, we host various other events throughout the year including Martini Night in May, a Wine and Dine event during Restaurant Week in July and Lifting Spirits in August. Follow us on Facebook for information on our up coming events and come and join us whilst helping to raise funds for a worthwhile establishment.
SMILE. AMAZON and our US FOUNDATION ITS FOR THE CHILDREN
AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon with the same products, price and shopping features as Amazon.com. The difference is that when you shop on AmazonSmile, the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price of eligible products to the charitable organization of your choice. Through our US Foundation - Its for the Children, a non profit 501c3 organisation the Children’s Home can benefit from the Amazon donation with no additional cost to you.
On our web page click on the Support Its For the Children - sign up for smile amazon link which will take you directly to the relevant Amazon page and "Its for the Children". Confirm your selection, bookmark the page and start shopping - it really is as easy as 1 -2- 3 so whether you shop regularly or just now and then use your bookmarked page and off you go!
Please note that Amazon.com <http://amazon.com/> and Amazon Mobile app purchases do not apply.
Unfortunately, you can’t use Amazon smile directly through the Amazon app, but there are 2 easy workarounds.
And you’re all set to shop at Amazon while making a difference in the lives of kids!
Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss how you would like to help.
